Locating the next generation of talented engineers and scientists is an ongoing challenge. Eastman mentors, trains and facilitates university research to identify winners.
Diving into ocean education
Through a partnership with Eastman, Dobyns-Bennett High School has launched a unique ocean sciences capstone course where students are challenged to apply cross-disciplinary learnings to real world issues and problems.
For the second year, students competed in the National Ocean Sciences Bowl Regional Competition in Wilmington, NC. The competition brings students from coastal and landlocked communities together to challenge their knowledge of ocean processes. Dobyns-Bennett is the only public high school in the state of Tennessee to compete in The National Ocean Sciences Bowl.
Educating the educators
Eastman, in partnership with East Tennessee State University's Center of Excellence in Mathematics and Science Education, provides professional development for math and science teachers. These programs were created to raise student achievement levels in partnership with school systems around the world. The programs give math and science teachers opportunities to attend workshops every summer, with additional professional development and training activities provided during the academic year.
Exploring opportunities for excellence
Public-private partnerships between industry and higher education provide insight as well as opportunities for developing a more successful workforce. Eastman maintains partnerships with a variety of universities, including North Carolina State University and the University of Tennessee. These partnerships support collaborative innovation by providing state-of-the art facilities and real-world experiences that foster creativity and challenge students to become better.
